Reality TV, with or against

Artists and entertainers have always been interested in techniques for creating imaginative worlds, setting narratives in fictional spaces, and deceiving the senses. However, in the past few decades we had a new kind of shows; which rely more on reality, based on real situations. But some people think of that as a violating of privacy, some others see that as a kind of far-distance communication, and entertaining in the same time. Can you tell us your opinion about that? Why? And what's your favourite Reality TV show, if you have one?

  1. Hands down, my favorite reality shows are any of the Real Housewives shows on the Bravo TV network. They are terrible, yet fascinating, and I often find myself cringing at the absurdity of the housewives' actions and dialogue.

  2. I remember I liked survivor when it first started, but now I'm fervently against reality tv. They all just come off as so obviously fake to me, in most reality shows the producers or whoever have things happen or force the people in it to do and say things so its not really reality.

  3. Good topic, Saad, but what do you think about the issue?

  4. In my opinion, I think reality shows are dumb yet entertaining just like you mentioned. I think it's because people like to watch others vicariously.
Survivor isn't my favorite but I remember when it was a big hit. The Real World or Jersey Shore are probably more popular now, and those are full of adult content... could that be a reason why people like it so much.
On the other hand, they can also be informative like the Biggest Loser; since obesity is a growing "trend" people are interested for the informative entertainment.

  5. In response to WhereHaveAllTheJobsGone?..I totally agree about the Real Housewives. It is not a show I continuously watch, but whenever I am home and my sister has those interviews on Bravo with the whole cast from the Real Housewives on, I am hooked! Danielle and Theresa arguing, or basically everyone arguing with Danielle is priceless. This drama filled show is addicting even though it is horrible. They can create drama out of nothing, which is very entertaining.

  6. Do you guys honestly beleive these shows have ANYTHING to do with reality are ARE NOT SCRIPTED! Yikes. They are totally driven by a producer and a director and are edited for your viewing pleasure! Trust me, this is TV and it ain't reality.

  7. Reality shows notoriously have a lot of fiction to them, they take the film and edit it to mean something else, or blatantly tell the people to do certain things. I think one of the main reasons it is so prevalent in various forms (also including all those competition shows) is that it is cheaper for people to make, seeing as they don't have to pay anyone a million dollars per episode like some famous actors.
In terms of actually partaking in the encouragement of continuing to make those piles of trash called tv shows aka watching them, you're just as bad as the people making them. it's trash and a life waster. fill your mind with something slightly less degenerating

  9. Ok guys, all what you mentioned has points. But there are some people think these shows scripted or basically profitable as Becky said. What about the cooking TV shows or Medical Shows. A wide sector of of people stick to these shows. Some even are monopolised by the information they get from TV.
